The York College community is mourning the profound loss of Scott Guise, the longtime Director of Athletic Communications whose dedication, professionalism, and heart shaped Spartan athletics for three remarkable decades. Scott, who served York College since 1995, leaves behind a legacy defined not only by the countless stories he told, but by the compassion, loyalty, and care he extended to every person he encountered.
For 30 years, Scott was the voice, the historian, and the steady presence behind Spartan athletics. His work chronicled some of the College’s most unforgettable moments, including the men’s basketball team’s inspiring 2005 Final Four run. Yet, Scott’s true gift was his attention to the everyday victories—the quiet displays of perseverance, the hard-fought points, the unseen effort that makes an athlete who they are. Student-athletes consistently shared how meaningful it was when Scott reached out after a strong performance or a tough loss. Even when he wasn’t traveling with teams, his support was unwavering, heartfelt, and deeply personal.
Colleagues often described Scott as more than a communications director—he was family. Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia captured this beautifully, reflecting on how Scott didn’t simply document Spartan athletics; he lived it. What mattered to others mattered to him, and he carried those emotions with sincerity and honesty.
Despite facing serious medical challenges in recent years, Scott’s devotion to the College never wavered. Whether behind a camera, on a headset, or working remotely during treatment, he remained steadfast in his mission to support students and colleagues. His perseverance earned him the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference Giant Steps Award, a recognition of his courage, resilience, and continued commitment to the community he loved.
His colleagues echoed the same sentiments: Scott inspired through both his work ethic and his humanity. His kindness was quiet but constant. His leadership was humble but powerful. His presence made York College a better, more compassionate place.
York College’s motto, Servire Est Vivere—To Serve is to Live—is a perfect reflection of how Scott approached every day. He served with heart, loyalty, and a selflessness that touched staff, coaches, and generations of student-athletes. He was, as many have said, a true Spartan in every sense of the word.
To Scott’s family, colleagues, and all whose lives were enriched by his decades of service, may you find comfort in the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind—one built on dedication, kindness, and love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his impact will endure in every Spartan story he helped bring to life.
