Jon Dodd Iowa Death, Obituary: Plas-Tech Tooling Inc. Mourns a Beloved Member

Jon Dodd Iowa Death, Obituary

With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, Plas-Tech Tooling Inc. announces the passing of Jon Dodd, a cherished colleague, a loyal friend, and an irreplaceable member of the Plas-Tech family. Jon’s loss leaves an immeasurable void in the company and in the lives of all who had the privilege of working alongside him. His legacy, built over nearly three decades of dedication, craftsmanship, and unwavering commitment, will forever remain a cornerstone of Plas-Tech’s story.

Jon holds the remarkable distinction of being Plas-Tech’s longest-serving employee, second only to the company’s founder. His journey with Plas-Tech began in 1996 when, as a freshman at Garner High School, he and a few teammates helped move equipment from a garage into the company’s new facility as part of a football fundraiser. Even then, Jon displayed the qualities that would define him for the rest of his career: a strong work ethic, a natural mechanical aptitude, and the physical strength “of a bull,” as lovingly remembered.

Recognizing his potential early on, Jon was invited to continue working part-time throughout high school, and later during his studies at NIACC, where he pursued Tool & Die making. It was during this period that Jon discovered his true passion — bringing ideas to life through skilled craftsmanship, precision, and creativity. He possessed a rare ability to visualize the final product before the first cut of steel was ever made, a gift that set him apart and made him invaluable in mold and fixture building.

After graduating, Jon transitioned into a full-time role, where he grew not only into a master of his trade but also into a patient and enthusiastic mentor to new employees. His knowledge, combined with his natural inclination to teach, helped shape countless careers and strengthened the Plas-Tech team in ways that will endure for generations.

To say Jon was “instrumental” to Plas-Tech barely begins to capture the impact he made. He worked tirelessly, shoulder-to-shoulder with his colleagues, always bringing skill, integrity, and heart to the job. The success of the company is forever intertwined with Jon’s dedication, and he leaves behind a legacy etched deeply into its foundation.

Jon’s influence within Plas-Tech extended beyond himself. His father, Scott, and his son, Sam, now both part-time employees, reflect the true meaning of “family” within the company — a legacy of service, loyalty, and shared commitment.

During this time of profound grief, the Plas-Tech family extends its heartfelt prayers and condolences to Megan, Sam, Brad, Chelsea, and the entire Dodd family. May they find comfort in the countless lives Jon touched, the respect he earned, and the love he leaves behind.

Thank you, Jon. For your friendship, your mastery, your loyalty, and your heart.
You will be forever missed. Godspeed, dear friend.
